Since its founding in 2010, Empower 225 has been a force for hope and change in Louisiana’s Capital Region, serving youth who are at risk of homelessness, dependency, and exploitation.
Mission-Driven Work Empower 225 exists to empower youth to reach their highest potential through educational support, life-skills training, career preparedness, housing, and mentorship. Their programs provide the resources, relationships, and guidance that young people need to stabilize, grow, and succeed—especially those facing systemic challenges or crisis situations.
Top Goal This year, Empower 225 is launching its Character First Leadership Academy (CFLA)—an innovative initiative that will serve as a cornerstone of its mission. Stephen Thompson of the Headington Institute discusses strategies for maintaining resilience during uncertain times, advising workers to acknowledge and process grief, focus on the meaningful impact of their efforts, and proactively build contingency plans.
Prioritizing self-care, both mentally and physically, is highlighted as essential for long-term sustainability, reminding nonprofit leaders and staff that even amidst uncertainty, their core mission remains impactful and necessary (Headington Institute, 2025).
The River Road Chapter of National Charity League honored 27 Baton Rouge area high school seniors for their community volunteer work at its annual Senior Soirée on March 8, 2025 at the Renaissance Hotel. These young women have served more than 4,079 hours at various local charitable organizations over the past six years.

Join the You Aren't Alone Project for a half-day Creative Wellness Retreat designed for people of all backgrounds to engage in creative expression exercises and discussions as a tool for mental health, self-care, support and solace in a safe and collaborative environment.
Spend the afternoon exploring how creativity and mental health intersect to support your overall well-being. We'll have guest artist discussions featuring art therapist Shiloh Langlois and artist and advocate Mike Weary, a mindful flow yoga practice, and a creative mental health workshop for tangible tools you can take with you and use in your daily life.You do not have to be a practicing artist to attend. We just ask that you come with a creative mindset and an openness to the healing power of art and connection.

The Bayou Community Foundation invites you to their annual Community Luncheon on Tuesday, April 8 at Cypress Columns in Gray—a special gathering to celebrate the power of philanthropy and the incredible work happening across our Bayou communities.
Attendees will hear firsthand stories from local nonprofits about the impact of their BCF grants, as well as moving testimonials from residents who have a home again thanks to Rebuild the Bayou, a housing recovery program. Bayou Community Foundation will also share updates on their work addressing hunger, behavioral health, and other critical community needs.

Bayou Community Foundation is now accepting initial grant requests through 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, March 7, in the first phase of their 2025 Annual Competitive Grants Program.
Since 2013, BCF has awarded 304 annual grants totaling over $2.6 million to qualified nonprofits serving Lafourche, Terrebonne and Grand Isle as part of the Foundation’s annual competitive Grants Program. View a list of BCF competitive grant award recipients HERE.
In 2025, BCF’s Grants Program will continue to fund impactful nonprofit programs that fill critical unmet needs in their service area, with special consideration of needs identified in their 2023 Community Needs Assessment. All grant requests must be submitted on BCF's online grant portal.

Chick-fil-A is offering an invitation to nonprofit leaders in their communities who are looking to grow and scale their leadership and organization’s impact to apply to the 12-month Chick-fil-A Impact Accelerator Cohort Program. Fifteen nonprofit leaders will be awarded into the program during the annual Chick-fil-A Impact Accelerator conference for nonprofit organizations in May.
