MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Big River Economic & Agricultural Development Alliance (BREADA)

June 13, 2025 2:13 PM | Brennan Doussan (Administrator)

Since 1996, Big River Economic & Agricultural Development Alliance (BREADA) has been a driving force in building a resilient, healthy local food system across Baton Rouge. With a mission centered on supporting independent farmers, fishers, and food producers, BREADA operates four public markets—including the beloved Main Street Market—that serve as vital hubs for fresh food, community connection, and economic opportunity.

Through their markets, BREADA fosters stewardship of both land and community, ensuring that local food producers can thrive while residents gain access to fresh, seasonal, and sustainably grown products.

This year, BREADA is focused on one key goal: increasing attendance at all four market locations. By doing so, they aim to create more direct-to-consumer sales opportunities that strengthen small farms and food businesses, contributing to a more sustainable and vibrant local economy.
